My sister is on TV!

My sister, Caitlyn helped us out at work and agreed to be in a TV ad for the University of Mary. If you watched the televised U-Mary basketball games on Friday, you've probably seen it already ... but if not, here it is.

drum roll....

The "it's not about me" concept comes from a North Dakota public college and university campaign about "it's all about you" (youniversity). In comparison, at U-Mary we emphasize helping others and the community through servant leadership. And improving yourself (though education) so you can better serve. Anyway, hope that explains it.

If you watch American Idol in the Bismarck area, she'll be on during those ads too.

Caitlyn Update

Caitlyn's group had some delays getting to Guatemala but we heard that they finally arrived last night.

Because of the delays, they were rerouted through Panama City.

Here's a note Caitlyn sent yesterday (Tuesday, Oct. 27):

We made it to panama city. Spent 6 hours here then to Guatemala city. We leave here in just over an hour. We also saw the panama canal from the plane and it's 80 degrees here. We will keep you updated. We are expected to get to Guatemala arould 8:00 pm

What a cool bonus that they got to see the Panama Canal!

Adios Caitlyn

My little sister, Caitlyn is departing for a service learning experience to Guatemala tomorrow morning. Caitlyn, 11 of her classmates, and one of her professors will be in Guatemala from Oct. 26 to Nov. 6, working with the GOD's Child Project.

While there, they will keep a travel journal. Visit the travel journal today for a description of what they will be doing, places they will visit, and where they will be staying . Caitlyn will have a few opportunities to e-mail photos, which she'll be sending to me, and I'll post here.

I have no doubt that this will be an once-in-a-lifetime experience for the group, and I'm anxiously waiting to hear all about it. Caitlyn in her last year of school, for a doctorate in physical therapy, she'll graduate in May.

Safe travels, Caitlyn! We'll miss you!

Snow fun!

With six inches of new fluffy snow and a beautiful sunny and warm day (high of about 15º) we decided to try our luck at sledding. The hills in west Mandan were the perfect spot. Corey picked out a steep area to sled down, which worked perfectly because there was a paved walking trail near it that we could walk up to get back to the top of the hill. It was a very steep hill which made for some crazy wipeouts. The best sled was Grandpa's old toboggan, which easily fit Caitlyn, Corey and I all together. 

My mom (ReNay) was our photographer, stationed at the bottom. The sledders included Corey, Caitlyn, my dad (Don) and me. Grandma, Grandpa and Ronda stopped by to check out the action and make sure we weren't getting too crazy. Dad was the best sledder, going the farthest and wiping out the least. Caitlyn and I topped the wipeout charts ... apparently I had a hard time keeping my feet in the sled - I guess I got scared.

I made a video of some of the best photos and action sequences. I'm rather surprised that we all ended the day without any serious injuries.
