Saturday was a fun day in the sun.
We started the day with train watching on the back deck.
Kya held story time for the ponies (while dressed in fun summer attire).
Then we headed to the river.
It has been about 18 months since we were last able to genuinely enjoy the river. Last year, the flood prevented all fun river activity. We're on course to make up for the lack of river fun in 2011. Click here to read about the river flood last year.
On Saturday, we helped Uncle Bob launch the pontoon and drive it up to the Vander Vorst cabin. Kya got to nap in the trailer ... a very fond memory I have of my younger days. Way younger.
Later that afternoon, we took the three kids to a sandbar just a few minutes north of the cabin. It was surreal to see the river in it's post-flood state. The flood left behind many new (and very large) sandbars and the river banks are very changed – many are now steep and eroded.
The last time Kya was on a sandbar, she was just a few months old, so this was her first time walking in sand and building castles.
She likes the feeling of sand between her toes.
Kya and Parker ... sandbar buddies.
She didn't get a sunburn and didn't float away. I'd say she was well protected.

Lauryn's first sandbar day (she only ate a little bit of sand).
fun in the sun.
